Gregory McEwan is the youngest of seven children. Born in Trelawny, Jamaica, Gregory was raised by the adopted parents of his father. He moved to Toronto, Canada at the age of ten where he attended George Harvey Collegiate Institute and York University. He wrote his first novel, Freedom City in 2004.
